Dia Dearstyne is a prenatal and vinyasa yoga teacher. Her creative and playful sequencing is rooted in traditional yoga and influenced by her lifelong study of dance.

I came to yoga in a real way in 2014 as a struggling modern dancer in NYC. At the time I was looking for a break from my usual dance class haunts. I had practiced yoga before with little lasting impact, but one day a friend invited me to take class with her and the rest was history; something about the packed Vinyasa classes of 2014 sealed my fate as a life-long yogi. I loved the sweaty, breathy flow of Vinyasa. And I loved the sense of both anonymity and unity that came from practicing in a completely full room–lost in and a part of a sea of mats and bodies. Yoga relieved me of some of the pressure I was feeling about my career in dance back then and helped me rediscover joy of movement and appreciation for my body.

What has kept me dedicated to my practice all these years later is the way yoga continues to grow along with me and support me in every phase of my life. Breakup? Yoga. Challenge at work? Yoga. New love? Yoga. Big move? Yoga. Married and pregnant? Yoga. Motherhood? Yoga.

I am continuously amazed at the things I learn about myself and the world around me through the lens of yoga.

I teach privately throughout the Hudson Valley, but occasionally you can find me stepping in to sub a class or two at Newburgh Yoga Shala in Newburgh, NY.
